Little Miss Nasty Colorado Springs Concert reviews
Metal with good manners - a sea of black shirts
Being a metal music fan, I am not really knowledgeable of this genre, so I can't compare it to those acts. However, I've seen other live acts recently, and I must say these guys did a nice job of giving the fans what they wanted. Their opening set was quite energetic and strong, featuring songs from their newer recording, giving them the punch you look for in the beginning.
The stage had an 80's vintage light show and pyrotechnics, which were annoyingly hot. At the end of the night, it was a real treat when they brought up the house lights and performed "naked" with black inflatable balls falling from the ceiling, a cool contrast from the all-dark prior 2 hours. It was rather nice and appreciated.
The musicians appeared to be enjoying themselves, especially James Hatfield, who seemed limber and moved great for 46 years of age, despite the band's ups and downs and tough touring schedule. It's always better when you can see the performers and they move out of the dark.
Lars U.'s professional musicianship was of note, having honed his craft to a high level indeed. He provides the structure and guidance for all their songs, really something to hear and see. Makes you wonder what he would have accomplished if he'd kept his tennis racket - a very talented individual.
Hatfield's comments were surprisingly sensitive and appropriate, showing him to be a very mellow and intelligent guy, not necessarily what I'd expected. Overall, their repertoire seems a bit thin, covering two songs (Motorhead and Bob Seeger), leaving me wondering, "where are their other hit songs?"
